Deadpool’s future has been a bit spotty to say the least ever since the fabled Fox Merger and the subsequent Disney+ meteor that changed a great part of the landscape of Hollywood entertainment as we know it. And many people thought the PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2 with a seasonal twist was a valiant effort to prove to Disney exec and their Marvel underlings that they would play the watered-down game to rock with the MCU.
But now it seems not only is Deadpool 3 set to be on its way, but Kevin Feige himself has also stepped down from Marvel’s ivory, gem-encrusted throne to enlighten us as to what to expect of a Deadpool under the Marvel/Disney banner. The short of it all, Deadpool looks to retain its R rating. Most specifically, though, Deadpool 3 will now be part of the MCU. Ryan Reynolds’ hard work all paid-off for the fairytale ending.
This is major news. As Deadpool is the only 20th Century Fox franchise to not only survive the engrossment by Disney, but has managed to find a home in the MCU.
Feige also had more to say about the return of Deadpool 3 under the MCU banner:
It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.
Deadpool 3 is slated to begin circa 2022 (at the earliest).
It will be interesting to see how much will changed to conform to the MCU structure and if the R-rating would be more covering more gratuitous violence or language/humour.
