Thor: Love And Thunder previously announced the casting of Christian Bale in the Marvel Studios movie, and whilst we knew he was up to play the role of a nemesis, the exact role has hypothesized but never confirmed. Until now.
Christian Bale is set to portray none other than Gorr, the God Butcher. And as the name would subtly suggest, he is about that deicide life. And you can imagine, being as good as he is with such a title, he tends to incite a certain level of fear in the god ranks of the MCU, Thor included. And his visage does not help to make things pleasant either.
But one may be able to forgive his lust for the death of gods. Gorr’s origin story is one of greek tragedy. Born on an alien planet, he witnessed the death of all he loved dear – his children, his love, his parents. So one can expect such a person to lose faith in the idea of benevolent gods. Ultimately, he was made into an outcast, as his lack of faith, in a society where that dissent is frowned upon. So you can imagine just how he felt when he found out gods were actually real.
Armed with rage and the ultimate god killer weapon, the Necrosword, he looks to wipe out the light and life of every god he can. The Necrosword is a tough one. It grants the wielder powers of speed, flight, and strength, among others Not to mention it enables its wielder to create and command an army of shadow “berserkers” who destroy and kill at their master’s command called Tendrils.
Needless to say, Thor got his (and her) work cut out for him (and her).
