John Cho, the actor cast to portray the titular character Spike Spiegel, suffered a severe injury to the knee whilst on set. So grave was the incident that the stoppage of production is expected to last for some 7 to 9 months.

The Netflix-destined series was first announced some two years ago, with more recent news revealing the casting for the series. Starring alongside John Cho is Mustafa Shakir, who played Bushmaster inLuke Cage Season 2, will play Jet Black, the Captain of the Bebop. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s Daniella Pineda will portray the amnesiac bounty hunter Faye Valentine.

Shinichiro Watanabe, director of the original anime, is also acting as a consultant on the show.

Get well soon, buddy.
