Star Wars late foray into anime via the Visions anthology on Disney Plus really opened up potential for the franchise to explore what surely was wasted potential up until this point. Now, Lucasfilm is taking advantage of its recent momentum in the TV space with news of another collaboration bound to raise a few eyebrows and spirits.

A cryptic project has been announced which will see synergy betwixt the beloved Star Wars and the prolific, even more beloved Studio Ghibli. Yep, the studio behind many anime greats like Princess Mononoke and My Neighbor Totoro and so much more.

And this makes sense. Absolutely. Ghibli’s work is what Disney would be if it were on high performance drugs, and the balance of dark themes with lighthearted and heart-warming sequences makes for a multi-pronged, multi-strata project that appeals to very wide audiences.

The coming project turns out to be a animated short – Zen – Grogu and Dust Bunnies. The short is 3 minutes in length and features on the Disney Plus streaming platform.

Although it would be more favourable in my opinion for Ghibli to explore a series, and with the studio often favouring feature length projects, may opt for this at a later date. The hope, anyway. But understandably, Star Wars is not a IP Ghibli owns, and who would want to give up their sauce on already-trodded land?
