The last James Bond outing in the gamersphere may have been arguably the greatest shooter on the Nintendo 64, but to enter today’s fray of shoot ’em ups and stealth will take a bit more than what GoldenEye 007 offered.

Now its revealed a new James Bond game is coming to us and it should comfort you in knowing the developers behind the planned project is IO Interactive. You know, the guys behind the Hitman.

So the devs behind the popular game franchise known for the greatest field agent in all things spying and espionage will be bringing their muscle to the James Bond game. And I know what you are all thinking. The new James Bond movie is due out, so is this a cheap marketing ploy to coincide with the release of the movie that has been postponed by the Covid-19. Well, no. So it will come as some comfort in knowing that this James Bond game will be a totally new, original story.

As for the look of the British spy, he won’t be taking on the semblance or likeness of any actor that may have portrayed him befor in film. Mind you, this new narrative will base itself off the long, rich lore and history of the James Bond franchise.

Here’s what IO Interactive CEO and co-owner Hakan Abrak had to say about the project:

So, I think for us to really embrace this fully, and really, as I said before, we don’t like to work ‘mechanical.’ It’s not just because it’s a big IP, or it’s a licensed game, and commercially this is interesting… It means nothing to us. We’ve taken a lot of non-commercial risks before. So, for us, it’s about… we need to feel it, deep inside. The passion needs to be there, so it was very important for us that it wasn’t a movie adaptation. So, it wasn’t a game about… a specific movie, where the story has already been told.”

More as things develop.
