News of DC Comics over-arching TV and cinema narratives were being drafted up for the coming The Batman movie with a spin-off planned for serial television came as welcomed news to many. And the spin-off of The Batman has surfaced with more news, particularly the direction of the series.
The Batman TV series primary focus will be around Jim Gordon. Many have already hypothesised it would take on the gritty disposition of the Gotham Central comic book arc (something I hoped the Gotham series did… which it obviously didn’t).
But it feels like a long way from fruition as certain details that may prohibit smooth transition from movie to spin-off is being shared as well.
Jeffrey Wright looks amazing as Jim Gordon if you have seen The Batman teaser trailer. But casting news suggests Jeffrey Wright’s Jim Gordon might not be Gotham’s police commissioner quite yet for the spin-off. Listed in IMDB casting as Commissioner Pete Savage is Alex Ferns. So, we may be looking at Jim Gordon on his way up the police ranks… or down? That’d be interesting.
In any case, DC is trying their hand at a model of interconnectivity that, if done right, will create a corner of the comic book universe that truly has reach and shines.
Until then, we have to wait and see what The Batman movie delivers.
