One of the most enduring reveals that took place at DC Fandome most surely was the revival of the Milestone initiative and the resultant talks of a Static Shock movie being in development.
Now that has become even more concrete with news of Black Panther-alum Michael B Jordan throwing in his hat to be producer of the Static Shock movie.
So it seems Virgil Hawkins is that much closer to the screen, and Jordan is set to spur a new nexus in the DC Comics universe under his Outlier Society banner:
I’m proud to be a part of building a new universe centered around black superheroes; our community deserves that. Outlier Society is committed to bringing to life diverse comic book content across all platforms and we are excited to partner with Reggie and Warner Bros on this initial step.
Outlier will be in the creative center of the Static feature and for Jordan, a comic book fan, this is an opportunity for not only for some world-building but to be directly involved in franchise-building. Should the first movie spark a hit, a multi-platform franchise could be born.
Featuring the titular Static/Virgil Hawkins, the character debuted as a Milestone character before the Static Shock series of the early 2000s converted the beloved character into a household name.
His transition into the DCEU is indubitably long overdue, but now it seems to be that the powers-that-be have begun to put certain wheels into motion.
More as things develop.
