The news comes from the Marvel Studios camp on the coming third installment in the Ant-Man franchise in the form of a casting. Actor Jonathan Majors, whose been tearing things up in the HBO TV’s Lovecraft Country series, has been the latest addition to the MCU and will be appearing in Ant-Man 3.
Who he is set to play, however, may give you some context as to how integral he may be to the next leg of the MCU saga. It is reported that Majors may be taking on the role of Kang The Conqueror.
And for those who may be unaware, Kang the Conqueror, aka Nathaniel Richards, is a villain has the same larger-than-life presence that Thanos exudes. So he may be a staple for what is to come. Able of time travel, Kang is from the 40th Century and is said to be a descendant of Reed Richards (leader of the Fantastic Four. Which potentially brings the Fantastic Four into the fold. Guess that 20th Century Fox merger will come in use in this run of the MCU. And the name and title should be enough to tell you what this villain is all about; one sounds like onomatopoeia that could only come from a violent strike, the other is the act of domination and rule.
Exactly how Kang will fit in the current MCU is still anyone’s guess. What events his presence may spur on or who he may usher into the MCU is still shrouded in the unknown, but it seems like the wheels are turning at the MCU camp, with possible chances retconning, reverse-engineering, and time-traveling in sight.
In any case, he’ll be joining actor Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly and be giving their respective characters Ant-Man and the Wasp a run for their money.
