If the latest iteration of the Robocop franchise left you feeling drained (or charged), this bit of news may be the reset in the protocols you need. Roboop is being given the serial treatment, as a TV series is currently in development.

The series will be a prequel to the original Robocop films. And when we say prequel, we mean it. Like, before Robocop existed. So there will be no cyborg in the actual film belting out orders or reading your Miranda rights.

The prequel will however take us to the embryonic stage of the corrupt mega-corporate goon that is Richard Jones that appeared in the first movie. Yeah, that Dick. But we’ll get to see him as a young, wannabe corporate climber leading up to the events in the 1987 film.

The writers penning the script are Dave Parkin and Rob Gibbs.

The orginal Robocop writer Ed Neumeier spoke on the direction of the new series:

There’s the idea of doing things about business and law enforcement in the city of Detroit a minute-and-a-half in the future, it would be a way to do all sorts of stories about business and tech, Silicon Valley, corporations, snakes in suits, cops, all that. It’s a wonderful rich tapestry.

More as things develop.
