Nintendo has been in court these past few years with who claims Nintendo violated a Recogni-controlled patent for storing facial sketch data when Nintendo created its Mii characters.
However the judge overseeing the proceedings came to the conclusion that Nintendo violated no patents as what RecogniCorp claimed to have patent over was “an improper attempt to monopolise mathematical operations”, thus Nintendo won and is in the clear”
Nintendo + Ajay Singh, Nintendo of America’s Director of Litigation and Compliance, had this to say:
Judge Jones held that the patent was an improper attempt to monopolize mathematical operations, which cannot be patented. The Judge therefore did not need to rule directly on Nintendo’s non-infringement arguments. We are very pleased with Judge Jones’ decision, which finally put an end to RecogniCorp’s attempt to cover inventions to which it has no rights. Nintendo will continue to protect its products and innovations against accusations of patent infringement.
