UPDATE: Kojima Productions is the name, and Sony is the new bedfellow

As if there was any doubt as to the mysteriously odd and strained relationship between Hideo Kojima, the legend behind such games as Metal Gear Solid, and Konami, now it’s written in stone. Hideo Kojima has finally, officially parted ways with the company. A company who all but a few weeks ago claimed Kojima still worked for them but was on ‘vacation’ The same company that told him he could not accept an award for the game of the year Metal Gear Solid V: the Phantom Pain.

Now speculations from around 9 months ago are finally, concretely confirmed. Kojima is no longer an employee of Kojima.

And reports have it that Kojima is already at work setting out to create a new studio, which will be largely staffed by his collaborators.

And while this means freedom Kojima, he is now having the added pressure of starting from scratch, as the success of MGS will still in part belong to Konami. So whichever project he firstly is set out to champion as an independent will have to be in par, or greater than that of what he accomplished at Konami. And in all honesty, he definitely seems to have more than a few budding ideas in him to do that.

In light of this news, will Kojima look to reconnect with Guillermo Del Toro to create a video game in the vein of the ‘what-could-have-been’ Silent Hills. A crowd funded project to kick things off for Kojima’s new company? Although Del Toro projects usually land outside the scope of crowdfunding. And what really sparked the shadiness between Kojima and Konami. Kojima has been pretty silent about it, but hopefully he’ll get his ‘formally-known-as-Prince’ game on and shed some light on the whole bizarre situation.

“Would you look forward to a MGS VI after this news? Plus Konami seems to be shying away from video games on a whole. What do you think started the rift between Konami and Kojima. Creative differences on MGS V? Something else more personal? Let us know what you think in the comment section below.”
