Konami is set to make a cinematic revival of the Silent Hill franchise with casting news that sees alum from the X-Men and Mamma Mia movies taking center stage.

It’s also been stated that fans can look forward to multiple installments of new games in the Silent Hill franchise, with a new movie entitled Return to Silent Hill.

The coming film has found its two leads in Jeremy Irvine, known for his roles in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again and War Horse. Joining him on screen is also actor Hannah Emily Anderson, who has starred in X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Jigsaw. They will be playing the roles of James and his true love, Mary, respectively.

The director Christophe Gans delved a bit into the narrative of Return To Silent Hill:

Return to Silent Hill is a mythological love story about someone so deeply in love, they’re willing to go to hell to save someone. I’m delighted to have the wonderful talents of both Jeremy Irvine and Hannah Emily Anderson take us on this journey into a psychological horror world that I hope will both satisfy and surprise fans of Silent Hill

This is some potentially phenomenal news. And we say phenomenal as Silent Hill has been one of the very few video games that did not fumble crossing the threshold into cinema. However, we do say ‘potentially’ because of, well… because of this.

More as things develop.
