“Star Wars” is going all-in on TV with the announcement of numerous original Disney Plus series
TV is the new frontier.
It has been a busy time for the Star Wars franchise, by which we really mean it has been a busy day for Disney. And to woo investors on everything Disney+, Lucasfilm seems to be diverting all their cinema-film powers to the auxiliary engines – TV series. Surely measuring the analytics garnered by The Mandalorian, it is all engines go. And it is a lot to take in, but here is the series you can expect to see going into production over at Lucasfilm:
Rangers of the New Republic
Rangers of the New Republic is a new Original TV Series that is set within the timeline that the current The Mandalorian series exist in. The seires is destined for the Disney+ streaming service.
Ahsoka
Ahsoka is also getting her own series branching off the current Season 2 of The Mandalorian. The series we see Rosario Dawson return as the great Ahsoka Tano.
Andor
Cassian Andor, the character from the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, returns in his own spin-off series and is set to come on Disney Plus in 2022.
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Ewan McGregor is set to return as the Jedi Master in the forthcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi TV Series. He will also be joined by Hayden Christensen, who, of course, will reprise his role as Darth Vader. As far as the timeline goes, the Disney Plus-destined Original Series begins a decade after the dramatic events that occurred in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch
Fan favourites hailing from the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series, Star Wars: The Bad Batch brings the eclectic clone troopers back for an all-new animated Original Series from Lucasfilm Animation, destined for the Disney Plus streaming platform.
Star Wars: Visions
Star Wars: Visions is an Original Series of animated short films, celebrates the Star Wars galaxy through the lens of the world’s best Japanese anime creators. Coming in 2021 to Disney Plus.
Lando
Lando, a brand-new event series for Disney Plus. Justin Simien is in the early stages of developing the project.
The Acolyte
Leslye Headland brings a new Star Wars series to Disney Plus with The Acolyte. The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.
A Droid Story
Lucasfilm Animation is teaming up with Lucasfilm’s visual effects team, Industrial Light & Magic, to develop a special Star Wars adventure film for Disney Plus, A Droid Story. This epic journey will introduce us to a new hero guided by R2-D2 and C-3PO.
