The two brands have announced a deal spanning 5 features seeking to bring Blooshot, Harbinger and Harbinger Wars to the cinemas.

All the aforementioned films will be a part of a shared universe, with interwoven plots and characters.

Sony Entertainment Motion Picture Group President Doug Belgrad spoke on the deal, praising Valiant for their history in crafting great narratives and Sony’s priorities re realising this colossal undertaking:

Valiant is one of the most successful publishers in the history of comics, and Neal is one of the best action producers in the business today. This is a formidable partnership that will bring two incredibly commercial franchises with global appeal together on the big screen. The long-term plan that begins with BLOODSHOT will be a considerable priority for Sony in the months and years to come.

Synopsis for Bloodshot reads:

Brought back from the dead and infused with cutting-edge nanotechnology by private security contractor Project Rising Spirit, Bloodshot is a nearly unstoppable killing machine equipped with enhanced strength, speed, endurance, and healing.

Bloodshot, created by Kevin VanHook, Don Perlin, and Bob Layton in 1992, was a considerable juggernaut, especially when you take in teh fact they were new comic characters at the time, not building of the ears of success other comic heroes had.

After two decades of record breaking sales touching seven million copies and 100 issues, Bloodshot’s recently release new narrative arc starting with Bloodshot Reborn #1 in April, featuring the talents of New York Times best-selling writer Jeff Lemire and artist Mico Suayan.

Harbinger centered around the story of a telekinetic teenage runaway Peter Stanchek and his employment into the mysterious Harbinger Foundation by secretive CEO and philanthropist Toyo Harada, Harbinger was created by former Marvel Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter and artist David Lapham in 1992. This was also a success on the valiant imprint, selling over million copies of over 60 issues, and the series has also returned to the forefront in 2012 with sold out copies and critical claim.

Harbinger Wars, which is the real kicker will show both Bloodshot and Harbinger’s world collide, similar to Valiant’s first ever comic crossover issue in 2013 from writers Joshua Dysart and Duane Swierczynski with art by Clayton Henry, Clayton Crain, and Pere Perez.

All in all, the cinematic universe promises a complexity and cohesiveness that Marvel currently monopolises it seems.

BLOODSHOT will be arriving in theatres in 2017 HARBINGER and HARBINGER WARS will follow afterwards
