Who else remembers getting The Terminator on VHS, opening the case that had a similar sound to loading a gun magazine, and taking in the resultant 1980’s bad-ass-ery straight into the main vein, and then realising the significance of the age rating way after the film was complete?

That same nostalgic feeling is surely what you’ll get with the coming of the graphic novel Vandroid.

The synopsis, for one, is so 1980’s, you can almost hear the synth-y, pulsating, nostalgic lazer music with driving beats and unrelenting futuristic soundscapes. No seriously, they have a ballsy f*cking soundtrack… for a comic! Available digitally…and of course, on record, or Vinyl to you young-folk:

The synopsis is also something we can get behind 100%. A MIT genius builds an android out of stolen NASA tech and spare parts from a van, with the help of mysterious financial backing (a PAC maybe?), and the result is a powerful, Vandroid. See Vandroid‘s synopsis below:

The year is 1984. Washed-up mechanic Chuck Carducci is contacted by an old roommate from his MIT days to team up on a new project using cutting-edge artificial intelligence. With salvaged electronics from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab, high-performance van parts, and a plutonium- ion battery dubiously procured by a mysterious financial backer, Chuck builds a robot so human, yet so powerful, it can only be called VANDROID! Chuck puts everything he ever wished he was into Vandroid, and the robot now has a chance to fulfill his creator’s lost potential.

The art style pays tribute to the comic art from the 1980’s pop-culture era with bold draughtsmanship and colour, using a minimalist palette. Vandroid is the 1980’s. And it knows it. And cares little what you think. We for one can’t wait to see it.
