With the recent ten-year anniversary of The Matrix, one of cinemas greatest sci-fi films of all time, it seems the cocktail of blue and red pills had taken a toll on execs and fans alike, as rumours of a fourth forthcoming instalment in the franchise was afoot.
Now a report from Variety confirms that the fourth Matrix movie is not only happening, but the elite alum are set to return. Neo. And Trinity. Yep, actors Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are set to return to the silver screen portraying their respective iconic characters.
Lana Wachowski will return to the film as writer, producer and director. Production for the movie is set to be underway at the beginning of 2020.
Warner Bros. was surely elated, judging from Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich statement:
We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana. Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker
Now, I am, in all honesty, conflicted. Partly because, well, I think the last thing people want to see is a prequel. Which, seeing how the trilogy left things, Neo and Trinity are goners. In any case, it will be interesting to see what they come up with. And is Michael B. Jordan still involved?
