Netflix love affair with the comic-book-inspired serial TV projects gets REM-deep as news arrives surrounding its up and coming DC project –The Sandman. The casting is surely in, with some heavy-hitting names on the roster to star in the forthcoming TV series..
The Sandman – the Netflix series is based on the prolific DC Vertigo graphic novels of the same name –unveiled some news that should excite fans and the likes. And the writer of the original graphic novel series as well as Netflix went to social media to share details of the casting.
Check out who is playing who below:
Tom Sturridge is Morpheus aka The Dream of the Endless
Dream in The Sandman graphic novels is part of the Endless, a group of beings older than gods themselves. Dream wields great power and is the lord and personification of all dreams and stories.
Gwendoline Christie is Lucifer
The Sun Of The Morning is, you know, the ruler of Hell, and a fallen angel. The Sandman‘s Lucifer, interestingly enough, takes major inspo from David Bowie.
Vivian Acheampong is Lucienne
Bit of a gender-bend with Lucienne, who is Lucien in the comics and is the librarian. But this isn’t your ordinary “shh, be quiet” bookish types. He is in charge of the phenomena of Dreaming in Dream’s absence. A loyal, devoted comrade to Dream.
Charles Dance is Roderick Burgess
Roderick Burgess is described as a ‘charlatan and a magician’. Part a an occult order, the ‘Lord Magus of The Order of the Ancient Mysteries’ is a comic book version of the real Alistair Crowley. Though his rival in the comics was Alistair Crowley himself.
Sanjeev Bhaskar is Cain
Cain, of course, is in reference to the biblical character who commited the first murder. Proof being first is not always being best. In The Sandman comics, he is often shown terrorising his brother. The kill however, comes much later, and it is more of a blow to Cain than one would think if going only by the book of Genesis and not the book of Neil Gaiman.
Asim Chaudhry is Abel
Of course, this is a reference to the biblical Abel. Turns out he has an asshole for a brother.
Boyd Holbrook is The Corinthian
In the graphic novels, The Corinthian is a nightmarish hell created by The Dream himself. Not every day you see a guy who has a nice pair of choppers for eyeballs. Unsupervised, The Corinthian roamed the earth as a blood-hungry serial killer. I guess we know what to expect of him, even though his heinous actions are – according to his creator – merely a waste of his potential. Yikes.
There. A whole set of tweets written just before bed and set to go out when I’m fast asleep. I’m vaguely worried that I’ve mistimed them, but too late now. Here are the first seven members of the #Sandman cast to be announced officially. Seven down, hundreds to go. pic.twitter.com/DksGLyMkBf
