Ghostbusters: Afterlife brings fans closer to the nostalgia of yesteryear ahead of the coming trailer with stills hailing from the movie to accompany the first teaser trailer. And the Sony Pictures Entertainment movie has surely ticked the right boxes. Because when you think Paul Rudd, you think “obviously”. I mean who but him could fit so effortlessly in the Ghostbusters mythos?

And the film will focus on a single mother with her two kids who inherited some peculiar devices along with her house purchase. The type of type one would use to take on the ghastly ghouls of the supernatural variety.

The Co-director and writer Jason Reitman (who is the actual son of the director of the first two Ghostbuster movies [nepotism much?]) spoke on the direction of the new Ghostbusters movie. If you were getting hints of nostalgia, we don’t blame you, as the movie connects to the original plot of the first film.

The extinction-level event that was the main plot of the first film– dubbed the “Manhattan Crossrip” of 1984 – saw New York nearly succumb to an apocalypse-summoning skyscraper and a gargantuan killer marshmallow man. And it was four ordinary dudes who managed to parry off the destructive plans of an ancient Sumerian God named Gozer. This is contrary to the 2016 all-female reboot, that created new characters and origins separate from the original.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is slated for cinematic release come Summer 2020
