Valiant Comics is set to bring one of its franchises a new lease on life as the relaunch of Rai is set to reach fans at the hilt-end of this year.

The writer pegged for the revamping of the Rai series is Dan Abnett, known mainly for his iconic science fiction work on the 2000 AD imprint as well as being part of the writing team that brought Guardians Of The Galaxy to the screen.

Rai story is set in 41st- century New Japan, where the is the titular cyborg samurai stands as part of the last defence of the dominant technological nation-state. This is until he discovers that New Japan is not all it is cracked up to be.

The coming narrative arc follows the events of Abnett’s recently concluded Valiant project, Fallen World which features Rai and is set in the 41st century setting of the new Rai monthly title. That series carries on from previous Valiant titles in building the post-cyberpunk world of the far future, after the fall of New Japan.

Valiant teases that the new Rai series is set to feature the titular character “on a thrilling quest to save the future in a journey that will introduce new worlds, new characters and gripping adventures.”
