Saban Brands have partnered up with the brand-saavy BOOM! Studios to produce a series of comic books based on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The series will take the majority of its influence from the 1990’s when the series first launched, so expect to see the classic team take on intergalactic mayhem.
The partnership tests the waters with six exclusive one-page comics being distributed at Comic-Con International: San Diego this year, each featuring one of the different Rangers.
BOOM! Studios editor-in-chief Matt Gagnon spoke on the partnership and coming collaborations:
We have big, big plans that will build on the core universe of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. We can’t give too much away just yet, but the story we’re kicking off with is vast in scope. Fans of BOOM! know we treat the existing properties we collaborate on with a focus on authenticity and quality. That’s the same sensibility we’re applying here.

Yesterday marked the the anniversary of the theatrical release of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie. No not the internet video that had Saban throwing a fit.
Each of the Comic-Con exclusive comics will feature poster art by Goñi Montes (RoboCop) and a comic written by Mairghread Scott (Transformers: Witchblade), with illustration from Daniel Bayliss (Translucid). Each of the individual stories can exist by themselves,or be put together and read as a single six-page story.
It’s morphin’ time.
Sorry, it had to be said.
