We are sure you are still hyped since E3 seeing Kratos throw down with new monsters and gods in Norse land. Well, it still amazes us that such elaborate creations can bloom from one piece of concept art or idea.

Case in point, a new concept art piece from the embryonic stages of Santa Monica’s God Of War has been released and it’s pretty dope. Check it out:

Creative Director Cory Barlog spoke on how this one piece of art – by acclaimed artist Jose Peña – really propelled the production in the right direction:

The inception of this very first concept art was from a one paragraph write-up and a phone call with Jose, talking about the mood and the tone. I think I threw a bunch of stuff at him with buzzwords like more grounded; the fact that his son is not a burden; the fact that Kratos and Atreus are together battling a very hostile world. And he was just smiling at the other end of the Skype call, and because of the new direction, we weren’t able to provide him with exact ideas

Principal Character Artist, Rafael Grassetti was also there the day Jose’s artwork was shared amongst the Santa Monica studio; maybe you can tell he was chuffed:

This art piece was definitely what everyone had in mind. It was a big inspiration for everyone who joined the project and saw this. Jose was the first one to get what we were doing and what we were making. Even on the final color correction, we kept coming back to what Jose was doing here and integrating every single part of this to try and get it closer to what he did.

We’re sure fans can’t wait to get a hand on this father-son team. And if the concept art is a testimony to what is to come, you’ll be doing as much protecting as you will be fighting. And that goes for both Father Kratos and Son Atreus; I don’t think the long-ass poker Atreus be packing is just for show.
