Before there was Superman, there was “Metropolis”… the prequel series set to premiere on DC’s streaming service

It seems it is not only Superman’s previous red planet Krypton that is home to seemingly fertile narrative potential. It looks like DC Comics is set to give a Fox-Gotham-esque take on the city of tomorrow. Yep, Metropolis is set to be a new DC series.

Metropolis is a live-action drama set prior to Superman arriving in the City of Tomorrow centering on Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they “investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets.”

Metropolis will begin production later this year, with the first season consisting of 13 episodes and will be set to debut in 2019, from Gotham executive producers John Stephens and Danny Cannon.

John Stephens (Gotham, Gossip Girl, The O.C., Gilmore Girls) and Danny Cannon (Gotham, Nikita, CSI series) are the executive producers of Metropolis. Danny Cannon will direct the first episode, from a teleplay by John Stephens, with story by Cannon and Stephens. Based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, published by DC, Metropolis is produced by Warner Bros. Television.

The order for Metropolis marks the fourth announced series for the new DC digital service, which will deliver an immersive experience designed just for DC fans. Additional programs include Warner Bros. Television’s live-action drama Titans, as well as Warner Bros. Animation’s Harley Quinn and Young Justice: Outsiders.

Now will this all be in done in the vein of Marvel + Netflix’s earlier run of series, or in the vein of the CW. That’s yet to be seen. But what do you guys think.
