Gods And Monsters: The First Chapter, the DCU Studios’ first excursion into DC IP under the command of James Gunn and Peter Safran was teased earlier with overall welcomed sentiments. As welcomed as one could get after destroying everything that preceded it, of course.

One particular film that caught people’s attention, especially after the Henry Cavill erasure, was Superman: Legacy. Who would be the new Superman? What type of Superman are we getting? And who would direct. Well, one of those questions have been definitively answered. And the answer is James Gunn.

James Gunn confirmed on Twitter of his plans to direct the first Superman movie that would not feature Henry Cavill’s iteration for the first time in since Man Of Steel. Done with the release date of July 11, 2025 in mind.

There has been talk of nepotism with James Gunn’s hold over the DCU, which frankly is not an unexpected thing. It’s the film industry. People will always feel comfortable working with people they have a rapport with. Like your wife. Or Chris Pratt. So Gunn directing this makes sense. As it truly is a proof of concept for the DCU, and will be the beacon that propels the future of the DCU or brings it crumbling like the tower of Babel. So a hands-on approach makes the world of sense in this case.

But what do you think? Will Superman: Legacy be for the DCU like Iron Man was for the MCU? Or is this friends hiring friends and selves going to lead to circle ego jerk sessions where honest fan criticism is ignored and the yelps of yes men hoisted up as golden idols?
