Bethesda’s The Evil Within franchise sure knows how to craft soul-wrenching imagery that blends the psychosomatic, trepidation-inducing simulacrum with strong signifiers and symbols that border on the eerie and supernatural. And we’re glad things haven’t changed for The Evil Within 2.
And the proof is in the proverbial promo pudding, as the game’s latest story trailer introduces us to Father Theodore. He wants Sebastian’s daughter. Or at least the power she harbors in this under-realm. But his cultish demeanor is just about all the proof you need that ulterior motives are in play…
And the only way this could be creepier is it was a Catholic church attached to the back of an all-boys pre-school.
Of all the characters in The Evil Within 2, Theodore is perhaps the most shrouded in mystery. Any detail about his past pushes into HUGE SPOILER territory. In other words, you’ll have to play the game in order to unlock the secrets he hides.
In Theodore’s mind, Mobius’ goals with STEM are misguided. They want to use the device as a means of controlling the populace, but Theodore believes he’s much better suited for the job than they could ever be. He sees STEM as a method for expanding his own influence and seeks to circumvent Mobius from within their own device.
