Some pretty ball-sy news has hit the anime-sphere. Looks like the brothers Elric will be taking their alchemy to the silverscreen as the cult-classic anime / mange Fullmetal Alchemist is set for a live-action adaptation.

It is reported Ryosuke Yamada (Assassination Classroom) is set to play the main role of Edward “Ed” Elric, a.k.a. the Fullmetal Alchemist.

Fullmetal Alchemist chronicles the journey of two brothers Al and Ed, who are on a search to find a way to restore their bodies after participating in an alchemy ritual meant to bring their deceased mother back to life. The search leads them on the path to find the coveted, mythical Philosopher’s Stone, whose power comes at a great sacrifice.

The film isn’t a Hollywood venture, however; Japanese director Fumihiko Sori (Ichi, Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker) is at the spearhead of the project.

The live-action Fullmetal Alchemist movie is being scheduled for release next year 2017
