Warner Bros. “Death Note” live-action film will likely be rated R

Producer Roy Lee went on record with Collider stating Warner Brother’s Death Note live-action film had “zero chance” of being rated anything less than R.

And while the film has not officially been greenlit, Lee is “fairly confident” that production for Death Note will begin this year.

Whether they will be pulling a Dreamworks move and casting all-white cast for the original Japanese manga and anime is yet to be seen. But to be fair there has been a few filmic adaptations of the manga in Japan, all that felt like a hit-and-miss for us. Not to mention a musical and live-action series. Could this be the haymaker we are waiting for?

Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee (Dark Water, The Lake House, Shutter), Lin Pictures’ Dan Lin (This Side of the Truth, Sherlock Holmes, The Lego Movie), Viz Productions’ Jason Hoffs (Edge of Tomorrow), and actor Masi Oka (Heroes, Hawaii Five-0) are producers. Doug Davison (Dark Water, The Grudge, The Lake House) and Brian Witten (Dark City, American History X, Final Destination) are executive producers, and Niija Kuykendall and Nik Mavinkurve are overseeing the project for Warner.

In the original suspense supernatural manga, Death Note follows the rise and fall of Light Yagami finds a notebook which grants him the power to kill people by simply scribing their names in the pages of the Death Note.
