It seems the Hollywood take on Ghost In The Shell is going forward, with news reportedly having Danish actor Pilou Asbæk cast as Batou.
anglicised DreamWorks film is a take on Masmune Shirow’s original manga and the classic 1995 Japanese anime adaptation.
Batou is the second in command to Motoko Kusanagi, the Major, who is being played by Scarlet Johansson. As it turns out, Pilou worked with Scarlet Johansson (who is set to play the Major) in Lucy, which was in lack of a better word, a clone of the themes of another anime classic Akira (with a spritz of GITS).
Issues with the film have already started with the mention of casting (being a story starring Japanese characters being replaced by Caucasians). There was even a petition floating around.
Ghost in the Shell is being directed by Rupert Sanders, from a script by Jonathan Herman. Avi Arad and Steven Paul are producing.
Ghost in the Shell opens March 31st 2017
“So what do you guys think. Will they cast at least one Japanese actor? Maybe a background artist? Cultural Appropriation? Or are people making a big fuss over nothing? Let us know what you think in the comment section, or get at us on Twitter @TheActionPixel
