James Wan to direct Mortal Kombat reboot

James Wan, despite producing and directing many films coming up in the geeksphere including Aquaman and Robotech, he is currently also at the helm of a Mortal Kombat reboot.

Now we know how tricky video game films can be, s they are either done to a decent standard at best, or tank horribly, but still it would be interesting to see Scorpion on the screen again.

It’s been a while since MK has graced our TV screens, in terms of film. Mortal Kombat (1995) was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, followed by the 1997 sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Mortal Kombat also saw the release of two television series: the animated Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm and the live-action Mortal Kombat: Konquest.

To think of it, the Machinima web series did a decent job of sorts. Much like what they did for Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist. That with the Mortal Kombat X as guide, maybe we have enough of an inspiration to pull off something epic.
