The Walking Dead © 2014 AMCWhen it comes to the zombie apocalypse, as far as endings goes, it’s usually grim for survivors. They die, or live on to fight another day in a zombie infested world bereft of life, beauty or humanity.

As such, nothing new should be expected for The Walking Dead, right? Well, Robert Kirkman gives us a little bit of insight on how TWD could all end. Cure? Controlled preventative medicine? Killing all the infected? Either way, their seems to be a silver-lining coming for Rick and the gang, or at least, for some of them:

I hope The Walking Dead goes on long enough that at the end everyone is like, ’Good thing we took care of those zombies!’. People talk about how The Walking Dead is bleak, and if you take a certain cross-section of the story, then yeah. Horrible. People have their loved ones eaten and they have a horrible time. But I see the story from beginning to end, over many many years about humanity overcoming this insurmountable apocalyptic situation.

What does this mean for fans who are addicted to the sufferage of others? Well, Kirkman promises you’ll get your fix too. There are plans to create around 300 new issues of the TWD comic headed by Kirkman. Hell, Executive Producer Dave Alpert of the TWD TV series has mentions the show writers have storylines already fleshed out that runs all the way to season 12.

So all the shooting and hacking could be far from over for now.

The Walking Dead Season 6 returns with a 90-minute episode October 11 at 9:00 p.m. on AMC
