Insomniac Games presents VR game Edge Of Nowhere for the Oculus

insomniac games. the action pixel. @theactionpixelOculus Virtual RitualityInsomniac Games looks like they spent their sleepness nights being quite busy. And we aren’t talking about the impending Ratchet and Clank instalment for the PlayStation 4. We are talking about Edge Of Nowhere. A game for the Oculus Rift. Virtual Reality.

edge of nowhere. insomniac games. the action pixel. @theactionpixelEdge Of Nowhere was revealed at the Oculus Rift press conference, and is a third-person adventure game which will make an appearance at the E3 event this year.

Main premise of a game is you and a bunch of guys go survey uncharted lands in some arctic wasteland. And of course everything that could go wrong will and your faced with mammoth sized, tentacled, King Cthulhu crustacean thingies.

Description reads:

Edge of Nowhere is a VR third-person action-adventure from acclaimed independent developer Insomniac Games. Travel to the far reaches of the Antarctic mountains in search of a missing expedition team. What appears to be a rescue mission takes a turn as you venture into the deep unknown, and discover a surreal world that will test your wits and sanity. Scale towering mountains and use makeshift weapons to survive and avoid descending into madness. In Edge of Nowhere, nothing is what it seems and the unexpected lurks from all sides.

Insomniac’s CEO Ted Price stated at the oculus press event:

You’re surrounded on all sides by the unexpected, and nothing is as it seems

Which is good, but the Oculus is still virtually (pun intended) a young technology, and bound to have some kinks. But Price acknowledged creating the game wasn’t smooth sailing and despite setbacks “it’s also been thrilling”.

We are sure that it will translate into gameplay as we venture into new, untamed territory.

“VR is all good and that, but 3rd person. Doesn’t that slightly defeat the whole perpose of VR… putting the gamer in the centre of the action as if he or she was there? As opposed to hanging over a characters head like a ghost of gamer’s past? We should at least get an option to chose between 1st and 3rd. Or is this the point… that its still a young technology and as such more intricate settings will eventually follow as things develop. Let us know what you think.”
