Other than being the Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger was best known for his role as the savage barbarian who was a slave, their, warrior and legend… Conan.

Now it’s come to light there is a new Conan film coming out. And no, we are not talking about a sequel to the 2011 Conan The Barbarian film starring Jason Momoa. Oh no. It’s a sequel connected to the films of the 80’s and is set to star Arnie as the Barbarian himself. Older, surely but still up for a fight

Legend of Conan is the title of the project in the works and is set to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor years later. Maybe Conan has finally found that kingdom he was prophesied to rule over. Just don’t expect any ‘light-hearted’ comic fanfare, according to script writer Chris Morgan (he wrote the Fast and the Furious series):

A light-hearted Conan?! CROM! No. Our tone is a logical extension of the character established in the ’82 film…but 30 years later. When we meet him again, Conan has been many things over the course of his life — a thief, a warrior, a pirate, a king, a legend — and is now an older man. Think Unforgiven… with a sword-wielding barbarian.

It’s worth saying the film will take cues from the Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian original literature, opposed to anything crafted from Marvel comics or Dark Horse. Or should we say, Milius’ take on Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian. Morgan claims that the new Legend Of Conan project will take inspiration and pay homage to the vision of Milius’ vision that first appeared in Conan The Barbarian film:

Milius was a visionary. And a hero of mine. He established a milieu that is stunning and violent and clear — incomparable. The goal, the dream, is to live up to his world. To make it worthy. And to expand on it in a truthful way that audiences will embrace. We’re very lucky that the architects of this new film — the writer, the producers, the studio and most of all, Arnold — who is Conan — are all first-generation fans who either worked on the film or who came along for the ride, cheering from their theater seats opening night. We plan nothing more than to immerse ourselves in the world Milius envisioned from Robert E. Howard’s unforgettable stories and Frank Frazetta’s stunning artwork. I can’t give specifics (nobody likes a spoiler!), but know we are honoring the locales, the religions and the traditions of the ’82 film.

Apparently there will also be return cameos from the 1982 Conan the Barbarian, “at least three”; Legend of Conan is still in development from 2012, and has yet to have director attached to the project.

Legend Of Conan is set to begin principal photography later this year 2015.
