Powerpuff Girls reboot coming to Cartoon Network

Cartoon Network’s Cartoon Cartoon segment was the talk for the 90’s kid. Titular shows like Ed, Edd and Eddy, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken and Powerpuff Girls were recurring series that branded themselves unto our retinas.

Well Powerpuff Girls is set to make a comback in a new Cartoon Network series, and with it comes new, and notably young voice actresses. Amanda Leighton will voice Blossom, Kristen Li will voice Bubbles and Butter will be voiced by Natalie Palamides. See the tweets and slow-loading Vines blasted out by Cartoon Network:

We all know everyones favourite Powerpuff Girl is Buttercup, and we only hope her tough impulsive, firecracker attitude translates well. And if it doesn’t, they can just have the Professor drizzle some Chemical X… nope let’s just stop the analogy right there.

It seems these new voice actors for the characters isn’t necessarily going over too well though, as the original voice cast that defined and gave rise to the popular cartoon series is all but abandoned. The original voice actors of the characters included Catherine Cavadini (Blossom), Tara Strong (Bubbles) and Elizabeth Daily (Buttercup). Tara Strong has been particularly vocal about her feelings re the new casting / reboot by Cartoon Network, having tweeted that “I don’t remember ordering a stab in the heart today”.

Woof.

The original Powerpuff Girls series started in 1998 and was created by Craig McCracken. The series ran for 78 episodes, earning two Emmy awards and even spearheaded a 2003 feature film.
