While Warner Bros. shuffle to get their seminal films together, it seems the weirder, more mature titles from the DC / Vertigo line that are making it into the DCU are going to be handled by New Line.
Vertigo was launched as an DC Comics imprint in the 90’s and since then they churned out an awesome, more gritty and mature comic and graphic novel content like Preacher, 100 Bullets, Y: The Last Man, The Invisibles and Transmetropolitan. They arguably influenced the likes of Image Comics which focused on less superhero-y type stories and more on mature content.
DC have been quiet about their coming film canon to be fair, but even more quite on film projects like The Sandman and the other darker DC comics. But news has come down New Line will be the company handling the more unique narratives from DC Vertigo, with potential stories like Swamp Thing being put up for film production.
At the moment Vertigo film titles and film series are strewn across various outfits NBC’s now-cancelled Constantine, iZombie on CW, The Preacher series about to make its rounds on AMC and the much fabled Lucifer making downfall on FOX.
So hopefully in the feature film department we can see some cohesiveness with the DC’s darker films coming through under one banner.
