Star Wars recent backing out of several planned films. Much of the cinematic side of things going entering a realm of uncertainty, with people close to the ground that were used to 5-year+ forecasts of productions now not knowing what the Star Wars franchise holds beyond the next two years. All of which hints at a tentative approach, which could be a sign of much needed moderation. That or whatever happens going forward will be a recycling of tried and true concepts for assured success.

For that reason, we equal parts hopeful and weary of news from Lucasfilm that the beloved duo from The Mandalorian Disney+ Star Wars series – Mando and Grogu – are set to take centrestage in their own movie The Mandalorian & Grogu.

The planned movie is slated to be released in movie theatres, and will be Jon Favreau, and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni.

The announcement was bolstered by some lovely concept art, non-AI mind you, in spite of Disney’s nasty misstep with Marvel Studios Secret Invasion intro (lol eww!). Check it out:

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy spoke on the news:

Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen

The Mandalorian & Grogu will go into production in 2024.

This is most certainly the [Lucasfilm] way.
