Well, apparently, it made a great enough impression on James Wan that we’re getting an entire movie about it. It’s in development. We guess it is the signature move of the director to isolate an element of film to then spur on entire movies based on them. Like Annabelle and The Nun from The Conjuring. Great.
Now, this is all dandy, but the fact remains we are hearing about this and nothing about a Green Lantern film, or what is happening with The Flash… or the future of theJustice League, or when we are getting a hard reboot of the DCEU… we think a movie about deep sea water fish should be some ways off of DC Comics and Warner Bros. Pictures’ radar. Our humble opinion.
The Trench has been described as a low-budget horror film. This is arguably in the vein of James Wan’s skillset. And our guess is with the success of The Conjuring on a whole, WB is looking at the returns of a horror influenced by a comic book movie as opposed to just a comic book movie, which WB has not really gotten right in recent years, sadly.
In any case, Aquaman 2 is set for development too, so it will likely be used to tease the spin-off if it is definitely happening. But we will wait to see.
