Black Mask: has the “Gotham City Sirens” found its villain?

Even as Suicide Squad nabbed an Oscar for Make-Up and Hairstyle, it seems things will get even more cosmetic for the Suicide Squad spin-off Gotham City Sirens.

Director David Ayer may have revealed his hand with teasing the the possible villain for Gotham City Sirens. And he has the face of death. Which is ironic, because his character in DC Comics ran a cosmetic empire. The guy we’re talking about is, of course, Black Mask.

Black Mask, also known as Roman Sionis, first appeared in Batman #386. After inheritting his parents cosmetic conglomerate, he plunged the company into ruin along with the beauty of the many women that used his products. Eventually Sionis becomes a stitch in the fabric of Gotham City’s criminal underworld, adapting the Black Mask persona, making enemies with Batman, Catwoman and the likes.

But given Ayers modus operati, we don’t doubt he’ll have a little leeway in tinkering with any origin stories if the Black Mask is set to be the main villain in Gotham City Sirens.

Scriptwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who is behind the likes of Tomb Raider remake and Warners’ own Sherlock Holmes 3, is writing the Gotham City Sirens screenplay and will see Margot Robbie reprising her roll as Harley Quinn.
