Legendary Pictures acquires “Detective Pikachu” film rights

Remember when that obscure Pikachu / Sherlock Holmes-inspired game that came out in Japan. Well we may be in form a filmic Pokémon treat along the same premise.

Well, Legendary Pictures, who apparently beat Netflix to the punch, continues its game-film excursion via acquiring the film rights to Pokemon. Legendary announced that production will begin on a Detective Pikachu film next year. The film will be live-action.

Universal Pictures will distribute the film internationally, whilst Toho Pictures will be in charge of exclusive distribution in Japan.
