Looks like there won’t be much of a pause in the galactic space opera that is Star Wars. Electronic Arts + DICE, the guys behind Star Wars Battlefront, is set to follow-up the game with a sequel slated for release during 2017.
EA said in an earnings release today that it has shipped over 14 million copies of Star Wars Battlefront, which was released last November on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. So with those numbers, it would seem this last minute addition to their 2017 titles is one to pad out the fiscal year.
EA’s chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen put it more succinctly in stating fans can expect one Star Wars title game a year for the next three to four years. Disney power!
EA will follow up the Battlefront sequel in 2018 with the untitled Star Wars project that is in development at Visceral Games. Amy Hennig, who was Naughty Dog’s secret weapon on the Uncharted series over at Naughty Dog until her departure in March 2014 — is the creative director on that title. This game will be a third-person action game, and will incorporate elements from the wider cinematic Star Wars universe, including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
