XCOM 2, the Turn-Based Tactical Video Game gears up to launch for Windows, OS X and Linux.
The game serves as a sequel to 2012’s XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a remake of the 1994 strategy game UFO: Enemy Unknown. The game is set to have three playable mods at launch.
One mod includes submachine guns which is what you would expect from to find in the Long War armory.
Other mods include a new set of leadership perks which can be unlocked by specific XCOM soldiers (although only one ‘leader’ can be used per squad), and a new enemy type called the “Muton Centurion”.
As such these mods puts the players in control, as they get to select which mods to make active, and their is always a trade off which ever they choose, which makes for challenging gameplay. The submachine guns for example, as Long War lead designer, John Lumpkin, explains:
They don’t don’t do as much damage and they don’t have as much ammunition as an assault rifle, but a soldier that carries them is faster and also harder to detect.
Nice.
