Borderlands movie currently being made via Lionsgate

Are we seeing another surge in the Hollywood / Video game genre? With Warcraft being teased and recently Michael Fassbender showing off his new threads for the Assassin’s Creed Movie, Lionsgate is set to bring Borderlands to the big screen

The film is said to be set in a sci-fi universe on planet Pandora, which has been abandoned by a mega-corporation prior to the game events.

Avi Arad (who founded Marvel Studios in 1993) and son Ari Arad are set to produce the feature.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger spoke about the news:

Part of our strategy in entering the game space under Peter Levin has been to source new brands with built-in audiences that will translate into great films and television shows. The Borderlands games don’t pull any punches, and we’ll make the movie with the same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster mega-franchise.
