Tatum expressed a lot of interest in playing Gambit even before the film was up to be made, which surprised us when the rumour came around about possible trouble in the 20th Century Fox camp.
But apparently it was quite an exaggeration of what could be a snafu in negotiations. Gambit’s character is being viewed as an “anchor character”, one that will have a bearing on any future films in the X-Men film franchise, like that of Wolverine. Set to be an origin’s story, Gambit’s importance may even be more pronounced with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine bowing out in 2017. Presuming that Tatum’s involvement has similar longevity to that of Wolverine portrayed by Hugh Jackman, his involvement with the X-Men film series could end up lasting a more than a couple movies.
Gambit is set to be directed by Rupert Wyatt.
Gambit will be released in cinemas on October 7th 2016
