Sega’s “Shinobi” to be adapted into a movie; other titles up for film adaptation

Sega looks like they may end up being at the forefront of the new wave of video game movie era sweeping Hollywood. Sorry Uwe Boll. Shinobi was an arcade classic and made its way to our delight on Sega’s Master System console, NES, and PC.

The game-to-film adaptation will be produced by Marc Platt Production, Stories International, and Sega CEO Tomoya Suzuki. The team is reportedly working together to craft a Shinobi movie that will “properly explore” ninjas on screen. Platt says the group’s hope is “to make a film that honours the essence of the games and brings this fascinating world to life for moviegoing audiences.”

There is also a possibility that other Sega titles will be up for a filmic adaptation. Stories International is also tied into producing film, TV, and digital projects based on other Sega properties, including Golden Axe, Virtua Fighter, and Crazy Taxi.

And with a Sonic The Hedgehog film in the works, let’s hope Shinobi turns out to be an awesome flagship project to bring mature Sega Mega Drive Classics fans some delight.
