Assassin's Creed @ The Action Pixel / Dulani WilsonMichael Fassbender is producing and will star in a movie based on the Assassin’s Creed games. For sure Justin Kurzel (director attached to the project) will have much inspiration, as the narratives in the games sprawl over centuries of history and geography. We’re talking from Renaissance Italia to pirate-infested Caribbean waters to the American Revolution.

But as it turns out the Assassin’s Creed film set out to be a standalone narrative set in the Spanish Inquisition, and like the game series, parts of the film will be set in the modern day.

In Assassin’s Creed game series, the protagonist are able to access and relive their ancestors memories through a special apparatus called the “Animus”. So we figure this will be the main connecting theme between the game and film.

And while we so love Assassin’s Creed for its cinematic finesse in the trailer department, we cant help but feel the announcement of the film is a tad bit in bad taste, considering the horrible year Ubisoft has had re: their shotty Assassin’s Creed: Unity game. But hey, who are we to judge? As they say, hope for the best, plan for the worst.

Assassin’s Creed the movie is set for cinematic release come December 21st 2016.
