Sony has acquired the film rights to Valiant’s Bloodshot for some time now, and whilst Jason David Frank has had his bit of fun portraying the character in cover art and in the short film series arena, news comes from the filmic / feature front that seems pretty promising.

It has been brought to light that none other than actor Vin Diesel has been in talks with Sony to portray the Bloodshot. Bloodshot is by far the créme-de-la-créme of Valiant comics which follows the story of a mob killer named Angelo Mortalli who is ‘bestowed’ with powers of regeneration and meta-morphing made possible through nanites injected into his blood. So think Deadpool and Wolverine amalgamation of badassery. He’s had his memories wiped god knows how many times, so you can imagine the road to revenge on the people responsible will be a carpet encrusted with blood.

Jared Leto, believe it or not, was in the running for the lead role in the film, but that didn’t pan out. Dave Wilson, a partner at Deadpool director Tim Miller’s Blur Studios, is set to direct the film from a screenplay by Arrival writer Eric Heisserer.

The film is slated to be an R-rated comic adaptation “that will be tonally and aesthetically influenced by high-concept sci-fi blockbusters of the late 80s.

More as things develop.
