venom. eddie brock. marvel. the action pixel. @theactionpixelSony Pictures has joined in on the Marvel / Spider-Man hype announcing their release date for the Spider-Man spin-off film, Venom.

The movie will hit cinemas October 5, 2018. Venom will be sure to follow on the success of the coming Spider-Man: Homecoming feature.

Alex Kurtzman, writer of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and director of The Mummy reboot will be at the helm of Sony’s Venom.

Venom was created back in 1988 by David Micheline, with artwork provided by Todd McFarlane and Mike Zeck. Venom is an alien symbiote that needs a human host to survive, which provides the human with incredible powers. The character was straight up villain in his original conception, but transitioned to anti-hero in late incarnations.

And though he had a outing in Spider-Man 3, which was universally disappointing (but boy, did we enjoy Peter Parker’s dance moves) it seems Sony’ll take another stab at bring the symbiote to our screens the right way. With great power, Sony…

Sony is also planning to release several Spider-Man related features, including the Miles Morales animation and Silver Sable (?). Hell, Carnage might be on the cards.
