News just hit the fan it seems with Sony and its future project with the shared Spider-Man film IP with Marvel. Or in this case separate from that.

Sony is on the verge of reviving a Spider-Man spin-off based on Venom. This branch-off project was on at Sony some years ago but trailed off into oblivion. But apparently its being brought back into production. Venom has been depicted as the villain in early comic arcs to Spider-Man; Eddie Brock became Venom when he was taken over by an alien symbiote to form a muscle-bound, gnarly Spider-like creature.

However in recent comic arcs, Venom has been depicted more as an anti-hero, even as an active member of the Guardians Of The Galaxy.

What we also understand is that the project will be separate from that of Marvel’s Spider-Man / MCU plans.

At this point anything that will wash away the residue of Spider-Man 3 from our brains and its only filmic depiction of Venom via actor Topher Grace is welcomed.

Dante Harper is being tasked to write up a new script for Venom; Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are reportedly on as producers

More news as things surface.
