Marvel + Netflix are gearing up to add a bit of pinaché post-Defenders with Jessica Jones 2, teasing both stills and a synopsis that will see the punch clock villain taking on an ugly past. And it also seems the legacy of the Purple Man is far from over, as David Tennant’s Kilgrave is set to return. To what capacity? The sillage of his chemical-induced powers still lurking in Jessica Jones’ mind? Resurrection central? Who knows.

But check out the synopsis:

New York City private investigator Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) is beginning to put her life back together after murdering her tormenter, Kilgrave. Now known throughout the city as a super-powered killer, a new case makes her reluctantly confront who she really is while digging deeper into her past to explore the reasons why.

And the team also shared some images from the coming Season 2 too:

Melissa Rosenberg, the series creator, also gave fans insight on the direction of season 2, which seems to be geared towards using original storylines and comic book as much as possible:

I will always use as much as I can from the books, but unfortunately we’ve gone away from that mythology. The MCU is very different, and we’re probably not going to be able to do parallel storylines. But I take every little piece I can [from the comics], because it’s so good.

Rosenberg also hinted the infamy of Kilgrave may only be the tip of the iceberg as far as Jessica’s issues:

I just want to continue with Jessica’s character – she’s very damaged, and the damage goes beyond Kilgrave, so there’s a lot to mine from in her backstory and her present day situation

Jessica Jones 2 is slated for release on Netflix come 2018
