We suspected this would eventually happen for some time. And it had everything to do with Ben Affleck’s hot and cold attitude towards the mantle of the Bat.
Originally the star was set to be the lead and also direct the WB film that boasted to bre the quintessential and definitive version of the Dark Knight bearing the title The Batman.

Now, Affleck has announced he’s stepping down as director from the film.

The Batman has been on shifting ground, with numerous delays amongst random premature promises of going into production soon.

Affleck spoke of his decision in a statement:

There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.

Affleck is a smart dude and decent actor / director. His recent film Live By Night, based in the prohibition era was dubbed the first box office bust film of the 2017. Which honestly is a bit harsh, as it was a decent outing. In any case, I doubt he’d want to take the reigns of Zack Snyder’s runaway DCU and craft a Bat under that ominous a shadow. Or maybe he came up against the nefarious WB executives who have been known to be quite the bunch of soulless cretins in terms of Wonder Woman and the DCU.

Or it could be the suit as Batfleck says. You could just get a capable AD though.
