bojack horseman Christmas Special. The Action Pixel. @theactionpixelBojack Horseman is the celebrity bum you can’t help but love, or at least sympathise with. It’s been a while since the series got some exposure signalling Netflix’s attempt to offer original animated content alongside the anime Knights of Sidonia. So in typical fashion, Bojack makes a comeback with for the Christmas in BoJack Horseman: Christmas Special .

For those familiar with the original series, Horseman is a horse. Yeah. That is a modern bum / failed actor who had a stint of success in the 80’s staring in a Full House-esque family series called “Horsin’ Around”. Clever name by the way. Well BoJack Horseman: Christmas Special focuses almost entirely on the subset show, “Horsin Around”.

And whilst this heraldry works great in the original Bojack Horseman series, in the Christmas Special the animation narrative seems forced. Dismally so, even. The reason for that is the concept of “Horsin’ Around” is so corny and cheesy, that it helps create a nice contrast between young Bojack, this supposed role model loved by everyone, and the present, real BoJack who is a total A-hole. So whilst interspersing “Horsin’ Around” in the wider Bojack Horseman narrative sets good balance to understanding Horseman, the Christmas Special focusing on recreating 20 + minutes worth of the superbly cheesy, corny “Horsin’ Around”, which is a bit tedious to watch.

But you be the judge. So, if you’ve got a subscription out and you’re about ready for your Netflix Christmas fix, it wouldn’t entirely hurt to get an eyeful of the one-off episode special. Just make sure the egg nog’s flowing to spice up the entertainment.
