chappie briareos comparison. the action pixel @theactionpixelIf you’ve ever got an eyeful of the Masamune Shirow manga and high-octane 3D anime Appleseed, you undoubtedly remember Briareos, the fullmetal cyborg dude with iconic ‘rabbit ears’. And if you have seen the promo for Chappie that is being released in cinemas March 6th, you would have seen the similar design of their main character is quite likened to Appleseed‘s Briareos. Well the director of Chappie, Neill Blomkamp, admittedly that the design was heavily influence by Briareos and anime on a whole:

Masamune Shirow, he has one robot called Briareos that has these rabbit ears. I just love that as a design feature, so I put that on the robot in the short… When I made Chappie, I was like, ‘Obviously, the robot will be based on that robot, and the fictional company that made that robot will make the fictional robots in the full feature film.

It’s always good to see credit is given where credit is due. Especially when it is blatantly obvious. Wel,l seeing that you’re here I guess we can give the Chappie trailer a whirl:
